Heather Murray

Heather Murray is the 19-year-old daughter of Brian and Edie Murray of Belleisle. Heather has completed her second year at Mount Allison University where she is working towards a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Psychology. She enjoys a variety of sports including swimming, curling, triathlon, and softball, but her favorite is badminton. Heather’s other interests include photography, salsa dancing, and baking. Heather is very interested in music, from singing and playing musical instruments to just relaxing and listening. She also enjoys travelling to new places, learning new things, and she is always up for a challenge.

Jennifer Elizabeth Franey

Jennifer Elizabeth Franey is the 20-year-old daughter of Bruce and Kathy Franey of Aylesford. She has completed the Information Technology program at NSCC, Truro, and is currently finishing the Office Administration program at NSCC, Halifax.

Jennifer is actively involved in the student council, peer coaching and organizing community food drives. She has received the Canada Cord from the Girl Guides of Canada and has a passion for helping others. She is keen to learn new things and actively participates in outdoor sports. Jennifer also loves animals and enjoys volunteering for the SPCA. Her hobbies include playing the piano, scrapbooking, photo imaging and spending time with friends and family. In the near future she hopes to obtain a degree in Environmental Science.

Kristina Grace Finley

Kristina Grace Finley is the 19- year-old daughter of Blake Finley and Maria Nichols of Berwick. She graduated from Central Kings Rural High School in June 2009. Her plans include enrolling in the Business Administration Program at the Nova Scotia Community College at the Kingstec Campus in Kentville. She hopes to follow a career in Public Relations.

Kristina enjoys music, singing and playing the flute, history, sports, reading and poetry. She has volunteered as a Girl Guide Leader, a Leader in the Girls March Break Day Camp and a Volunteer Junior Educational Assistant.

Shelby Smith is the 19-year-old daughter of Marjorie and Jim Smith of Habitant. She graduated from Northeast Kings Education Centre in June 2009 and is currently working at the Cochrane’s Pharmasave in Canning. She plans to do so until she returns to school in 2011 to take Medical Office Assistant program at the Nova Scotia Community College. Shelby is an animal lover who enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

Jenna Greenough

Jenna Greenough is the 18-year-old daughter of Tony and Dawn Greenough of Coldbrook. Jenna graduated with honours in the French Immersion program from Central Kings Rural High School and is now attending St. Francis Xavier University, where she taking a Bachelor of Arts in Human Kinetics. Jenna hopes to finish her four-year degree at St. Francis Xavier and move on to pursue a career in Occupational Therapy.

Jenna has been involved in various organizations over the past few years. In grade twelve, Jenna was on the graduation committee and was the secretary for the band executive. This year Jenna is on the Human Kinetics Society and part of her residence council. Jenna enjoys playing sports, piccolo, reading, traveling and being with family and friends.

Josie Zakhour is the 18-year-old year daughter of Leo and Evelyn Zakhour of Digby. Josie graduated from Digby Regional High School in 2009. While there, Josie was part of the student council, prom committee, a peer mentor, member of the softball team and captain of the volleyball team. She is currently enrolled in her first year at Dalhousie University working towards a Bachelor of Science, with majoring in Biology. She plans to study medicine to become a pediatrician. Josie is passionate about volleyball, hanging out with family and friends and volunteering. She is very proud to be a resident of Digby because of the friendly smiles and warm faces.

Shannon Moors is the 18-year-old daughter of Lorrie Moors (Kentville) and Pam Garland (Hantsport). She graduated from Horton High School with Honours and is now currently attending Dalhousie University, studying English and Theatre. Eventually Shannon hopes to become an English and Drama teacher. In high school, she was involved in the drama club, choir, Horton Holiday Hoorah, respect for diversity day, Mermaid Youtheatre's “The Circle” and she was the regional Co-Premier for the Nova Scotia Secondary Schools Student's Association (N.S.S.S.A.). Shannon enjoys singing, playing guitar/banjo, acting, helping others, babysitting, and spending quality time with her family and friends.

Kara Anne Hill is the 19-year-old daughter of Clifford Hill and Nola Folker-Hill. Kara has resided in Kentville all of her life with her family, including her brother Evan and grandmother Lila Folker. Kara attended Northeast Kings Education Centre, graduating in June of 2008. She was heavily involved with student council and was a member of the fall fling, grad, spirit and spring spectacular committees. She was involved with the choir program and was a cheerleader. Kara was a junior volunteer at the Annapolis Valley Regional Hospital and participated in Junior Achievers. Kara is now attending Acadia University where she is enrolled in a Bachelor of Business Administration, majoring in marketing with a minor in psychology. Kara's hobbies include: reading, babysitting, spending time with family and friends, volunteering and finding ways to give back to her local and school communities.

Olivia Switzer is the 19-year-old daughter of Adin and Wendy Switzer of Kingston. Olivia graduated from Vanier Collegiate in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan in 2008. While at the Vanier Collegiate, Olivia was the President of the school’s SADD chapter, captain of the cheerleading team and an executive member of the student council. Olivia has received several academic awards including a major academic award on her graduation, the Acadia Excellence Scholarship as well as the district and provincial acting awards while attending Vanier Collegiate.
Olivia attends Acadia University and is enrolled in the Bachelor of Business Administration Program, majoring in Marketing. She is employed as a financial services representative with the Valley Credit Unions. She enjoys photography, cheerleading, skiing, reading, shopping and being with friends, family and her dog, Scout.

Mandy Deveau is the 23-year-old daughter of Ricky Deveau and Debby and Darren LeBlanc.
Mandy has a very strong interest in business and marketing, and currently works at Cornwallis Chevrolet Buick GMC in New Minas as one of its leading sales consultants.
She attended Acadia University and is continually working towards earning her sales certification as a Genuine GM sales consultant. As much as Mandy is becoming an active part of the Valley’s business scene, she is equally becoming more and more active in her community. She was recently approached to be a part of the Valley’s Big Brothers, Big Sisters Board of Directors, which she eagerly accepted. She volunteers with the Village of New Minas, helping out with the annual Festival of Lights and winter carnival. In her spare time, Mandy enjoys studying, drawing, running and volunteering whenever possible.

Laura Houghton is the 21-year-old daughter of Darlene and Darrell Houghton. She attended Port Williams Elementary School and graduated from Horton High School in 2006. She will be graduating this spring from the University of New Brunswick with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in history with a minor in classical studies. She plans to continue her studies by pursuing a law degree. Some of Laura’s employment experiences include working as a camp counsellor, a recreation assistant at Evergreen Nursing Home, and the call centre for UNB’s Annual Giving campaign. She has volunteered with various university organizations, including a term as house president and chief returning officer for UNB, as well as Quest 4, a girls science camp and Ducks Unlimited. She also enjoys soccer, dance, gymnastics, leadership training and volunteer work.

Emily Elizabeth Lynn Rafuse is the 18-year-old daughter of Carey and Karen Rafuse of Windsor. She is currently enrolled in her first year at Dalhousie University, taking a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in French and Environment Sustainability and Society. Emily’s career aspiration is to become a teacher. She loves being involved in her community and is often recognized at local events when singing O Canada. Emily is also an elder and senior choir member of the Windsor United Church. She has been involved with the local political community and student council for the past several years. Emily is passionate about music, singing, hockey and the environment. She is proud to be a resident of Windsor because of the friendly people, familiar faces and our small town pride!

Kaleigh Stirling

Kaleigh Stirling is the 20-year-old daughter of Coleen and Ralph Stirling of Grand Pre. She is currently enrolled in her third year at Acadia University, taking a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics.
Kaleigh is currently employed at the Kings Arms Pub. She is also the President of the Annapolis Valley affiliate of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada, a member of the Eastern Kings Community Health Board’s action planning committee, and a member of the Acadia Nutrition and Dietetics Society.
Her recreational activities include soccer, surfing, skating, dancing, reading and baking.
Kaleigh’s future plan is to become a registered dietician.
